The state that dominates the American West landscape is California. California experiences the largest range of temperatures and topography in the US, and is home to cool mountain ranges and blistering canyons. Adding the hardscape element of rocks to your garden landscape is a great idea. The rocks will share equal attention with the plants and foster a natural looking space. Dig little holes and embed the rocks half-way into the earth. This will give the impression that the rocks are meant to be there -- that they always have been.
